We were the first service of its kind to operate in
Gloucestershire and have at our disposal a fleet of eight specially adapted
vehicles. The service provides door-to-door transport for disabled and
elderly/frail people who may have difficulty using public transport or
travelling by car. If you are able to travel by car, we also have
voluntary drivers who may be able to help with your needs. Operated
by Newent Association for the Disabled, we have a caring body of people, many of
whom are voluntary, and are there to advise and assist you in many ways.
All Dial-a-Ride services operate under a
special permit that allow us to help people of limited mobility and enable them
to lead a more independent life. There are no upper or lower age limits
and therefore our services are available to anyone, both during temporary
disablement and for longer periods of time. Your doctor, health
visitor or other practitioner is able to refer you to us, but you may also
contact us directly. It is not our intention to take passengers away from
other transport providers.
FARES AND FINANCE
Our Dial-a-Ride service
is currently assisted by a grant from Gloucestershire County Council's transport budget
with some support from the Forest of Dean District Council and small donations
from local bodies. These funds help towards staff wages,
administration, publicity, vehicle maintenance and operating costs.
We still have to charge a
fare to cover many of our running costs and the cost of replacing minibuses.
We do not make a profit and all fares collected are used to support the service.
Concessionary tickets or tokens are acceptable towards your fare. If
you do not receive these but think you might be eligible please contact the
Forest of Dean District Council on 01594 810000.
MINIBUSES
We have
eleven wheelchair
accessible minibuses. All minibuses have VHF radios to provide flexible
operation.
REGISTRATION
An registration fee
of £10 is payable, this entitles you to use the service as often as you wish
for a period of three years. The fee helps us to provide basis insurance cover and
contributes to other administrative costs. Completed registration forms
may be returned by post or given to any driver.
